Już pomijając prosty mechanizm gospodarczy, w którym gdyby nie było airbnb to było by więcej hoteli, to wynika to z tego, że: - Taki przybytek nie ma kosztów ochrony. Zapewniają ją za darmo sąsiedzi. - Nie musi sprzątać klatki i innych przestrzeni wspólnych. Zrzucają się wszyscy mieszkańcy. - Nie musi stosować norm ppoż czy sanitarnych jak hotel. W końcu to "mieszkanie". - Nie musi prowadzić recepcji. Obowiązków rejestracyjnych tutaj nie ma, a kłódkę z kodem można wywiesić na bramie. - Nie ponosi kosztów wizerunkowych. Nawet jak w jednym przybytku ktoś "zapomni" zmienić pościeli - to oberwie ten przybytek, a nie cały hotel z 200 lokalami.
