In Banská Bystrica, on August 1st, several memorial events are held for the Memorial Day of the Romani Holocaust to commemorate the tragedy from August 2nd to 3rd, 1944, when approximately 4,300 Roma were murdered in Auschwitz II–Birkenau, and to draw attention to current issues of discrimination and racism against the Romani community.
