Seven years ago, my Father left this world. For many, he was primarily one of the most important figures of the independence opposition, the founder and chairman of Fighting Solidarity, and the senior marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland in its eighth term. For me, of course, he was above all a beloved Father. One of the closest people to me, who—when I was thirteen years old—the communist regime took away from me, forcing him to hide, then keeping him in prison, sentencing him to exile. From the age of thirteen to twenty, I only had contact with my Father through correspondence, and later through prison bars. Both before and after those most difficult years, he taught me a great deal, although we also often debated. It does not change the fact that he was always an authority and a Hero to me. The more time passes since his death, the more I realize how much I owe him. And how much Poland owes him as well. And also how often he was completely right about a multitude of Polish matters... In how much and how urgently we need to do for Poland. Dear Dad! I know very well what you expect from me and what you would like to hear from me. That’s why I swear to you that as long as I live, I will give absolutely everything of myself to realize your dreams and plans. Plans aimed at building the strength, position, prestige, security, and happiness of our beloved Fatherland and friendship between nations. (translated)
