Pavelsh wrote that the K-278 "Komsomolets" was the only Soviet Project 685 "Spoiler" nuclear submarine with a titanium hull and a record maximum diving depth. According to him, on August 4, 1985, it reached a depth of 1027 meters — an absolute submarine record. The submarine sank on April 7, 1989, in the Norwegian Sea at a depth of approximately 1858 meters after a fire in the aft, seventh compartment. Out of 69 people on board, 42 perished, while 27 were rescued. Pavelsh noted that the wreck is located at a depth of approximately 1680–1858 meters and contains the nuclear reactor and torpedoes with nuclear warheads. He also wrote that in many years of research, including the "Mir" expeditions and joint Russian and Norwegian measurements, small local radiation leaks have been detected. #zemūdenes #kodolenerģija #vēsture (translated)
