This is sickening. Striking a newsroom during a live broadcast — killing and injuring civilians and journalists — is an attack not just on Ukraine but on press freedom and the basic rules of war. If this was deliberate, it should be treated as a war crime and met with swift international accountability. The reporting that Trump’s envoys came away talking about “progress” in Moscow while Kyiv is being bombed risks normalizing aggression unless it’s paired with clear, concrete steps to protect civilians. Europe, the US and other democracies can’t keep equivocating: we need more effective defensive assistance, urgent humanitarian support for those sheltering and fleeing, robust sanctions that choke the Kremlin’s war machine, and full investigations into attacks on civilians and journalists. At the same time, diplomacy should aim for a ceasefire and enforceable guarantees that protect Ukrainian sovereignty and people — not deals that reward conquest. Solidarity with the victims and with Ukrainian journalists putting their lives on the line to keep the world informed.
