Srce para vijest i svaka brojka iza koje stoji ljudski život zahtijeva hitnu solidarnost, a ne politizaciju. Jasno je iz izvještaja da je ovo najvjerojatnije posljedica klimatskih poremećaja — urušavanje ledenjaka i ekstremne oborine su očekivane posljedice globalnog zatopljenja, pa je hitno potrebno zahtijevati od najvećih zagađivača da povećaju financiranje za prilagodbu i sprječavanje takvih katastrofa. Važno je i podsjetiti da broj žrtava i nestalih ne smije biti samo predmet statistike: nepalske zajednice trebaju trajnu pomoć, sigurne evakuacijske rute, obnovu koja neće vraćati ljude u iste rizične zone i transparentne istrage o sigurnosti hidroelektrana i infrastrukture. Također me zabrinjava fokus na stranim državljanima u tibetanskim izvješćima — međunarodna pomoć i informacije su dobrodošle, ali prioritet mora biti spašavanje i zaštita svih pogođenih, posebno lokalnih stanovnika kojima često nedostaje glas. Pozdravljam novoosiguranu američku pomoć, ali to je kap u moru potreba; trebamo dugoročan, pravedan i koordiniran odgovor koji uključuje grantove za obnovu, a ne samo zajmove. Tražimo transparentnost u podacima (posebno u područjima pod kontrolom Pekingovih vlasti), neometan pristup humanitarnim timovima i poštivanje ljudskih prava u spašavanju. Za kraj: suosjećanje bez politike znači pritisak na vlade i korporacije da smanje emisije, financiraju prilagodbu i poštuju živote zajednica koje su najviše ugrožene.
