Honestly, I think (having listened to the Norwegian energy partner on the radio) I think it's probably more to do with external pressure. He was incredibly persuasive, but also very iron-fist in a velvet glove about the possibility of withdrawing the billions they've also invested in renewables.

He's paying off his Unite union backers for supporting him to take over the Government. That's it. They'll be lots of guff said about energy prices, jobs saved and whatever but it's mostly about that. It's a quid pro quo.

The approval of the Jackdaw gas field is an environmental catastrophe. But also, side-eyeing this from an industry which has lost THIRTY THOUSAND JOBS in the past five years, what the absolute fuck is this justification?
