Launching war without Congressional authorization or any emergency is unconstitutional. Launching it without even consulting Congress is contempt for the Constitution. Continuing after 60 days violates the War Powers Act. Claims that changing the name undoes that is contempt. Easily impeachable.

The president pardoning criminals because he likes their crimes and/or they bribe him is very bad and we’ll have to deal with it. But still, presidential pardons can’t stop Congressional investigations, canceled federal contracts, state-level prosecutions, or negative market or social reactions.

The U.S. government’s apparent priority is boosting the Russian economy. Seeing Russia’s war effort weaken, America’s top representatives—that’d be the president’s corrupt son-in-law and corrupt real estate investor friend—try to find ways to help it succeed in exchange for bribes for themselves.

No US-Iran deal to be had. Everyone’s making deal noises again, but nothing has changed. The options are humiliating US surrender (again) or more war. If Trump was going to surrender (again, like in June) he would’ve before the election, so energy prices would’ve fallen (like in June). Posturing.

Wow, the Democratic Party is in array. Remarkably arrayed. You all can see that, right? One Democrat out of array, and it’s met with widespread objection, as figures across the coalition speak up, and the party’s heavy hitters go stand with the nominee. What a good sign heading into the election.

Haley Stevens might end up the last person to get on the MAGA train, when it was already half way off the cliff. It's nice to see that so many Democrats—and pro-democracy Americans more broadly—have lined up behind Dem nominees that this contrasting example stands out. Bigger things are happening.

The biggest disinformation campaign trying to undermine US democracy, manipulate elections, and sow doubt among the public is not coming from Russia or any foreign adversary. It's coming from the United States federal government, including an extensive lying effort by the Department of Justice.

The US should end the Iran war rather than digging the hole deeper, and Democrats should do what they can to make it happen. But we shouldn't kid ourselves. Trump has so badly damaged America's strategic position that ending the war will look like choosing a bad loss over going for partial success.

Stealing the Alaska election is apparently Team Trump’s play to keep the Senate. Abusing power at multiple levels—DOJ, FBI, Alaska governor, more—to set up a lie that the outcome is unknowable and can’t be accepted. If Dems end up with 50 seats plus a narrow win in Alaska, this could get very ugly.

Really have to give it to the Democratic Party for nominating strong candidates this election. Thanks to primary voters, and to a lesser extent some party officials, the Democrats picked a variety of charismatic, competent candidates who seem suited to their constituencies. And dodged some bullets.

US strikes on Iran will likely resume—maybe as soon as Wed or Thurs, since the White House will like changing headlines from “Democrats Win” to “Trump Bombs Iran”—and leaks indicate it’ll hit civilian targets. They hope to cripple Iran’s economy and force concessions. It’ll be war crimes and won’t.

Trump and Republicans are trying in the Alaska Senate race to do what they hoped to do in the 2020 Pennsylvania presidential election: lie, pretend there’s something illegal, then insist the result doesn’t count, at minimum creating delays to exploit. And the NYT editors apparently decided to help.

When the US govt says the Iran war has cost $47.1 billion (and counting) that refers only to the munitions they used up and now have to replace, along with other operational costs. Nothing else. The actual cost is in the hundreds of billions, and by the time it’s all over, will be in the trillions.

The US tried telling Europe not to defend themselves from Russian aggression or else Russia will get aggressive and it’ll be Europe’s fault—which didn’t work—so now they’re telling Europeans to self-censor and avoid acknowledging what Russia is doing or else Russia will do what it’s already doing.

Cryptocurrency (the digital asset promoted by the Trump White House) Was stolen from Binance (led by a convicted financial criminal who Trump pardoned for a bribe) Possibly by North Korea (led by a heavily sanctioned dictator who is praised and defended by Donald Trump) I detect a pattern here

Google’s business model—the best way to find and be found on the internet—made it one of the biggest, most successful, most influential companies in history. So they ditched it, degrading their signature product, in favor of something more like OpenAI’s much less successful business model.

I dispute the claim that everyone got Pete Hegseth wrong. If you think someone must be a disciplined, calculating genius to degrade institutions, Hannah Arendt explained how buffoons do it. And if you lived through 2017-24 and still thought Trump is "anti-war," that's because you badly wanted to.

NVIDIA's CEO was targeted by Chinese intelligence? AND the White House knew but didn't do anything?!? BECAUSE the US president worried about jeopardizing chip sales to China?!?!?! NO, REALLY Trump's concern was China's AI development might be hindered, so Chinese intel ops shouldn't be countered.

Americans watching Brazil: You voted *against* putting fascists back in power after they attempted a coup and rioted at government buildings? And your institutions take steps to hold influential people accountable for coup-plotting, election interference, and other crimes? Huh. That sounds nice.

JD Vance: I don't know the names of countries I'm doing war diplomacy with and won't learn, put me in charge of foreign policy Susan Collins: I have no idea what any judge will do, I don't look at their record, put me back in position to oversee judges GOP voters: Thank you, this is what we want
