Aussi incroyable que cela puisse paraître aujourd'hui, sur la période 1981-2010, la moyenne des températures de l'après-midi en août en France (ce qu'on appelait alors « la normale ») tournait autour de 20°C près de la Manche, 25°C à Paris et 30°C à Marseille (voir la carte). Oui, c'est tout. Et non, je ne mens pas. Interminable ? Oui, littéralement. Nous sommes en train de vivre la plus longue série jamais observée de jours consécutifs au-dessus des normales, avec plus de 71 jours attendus (voir le grpahique). Le précédent record venait tout juste d'être battu… au printemps 2026, avec 61 jours consécutifs, du 12 janvier au 13 mars. La France traverse donc un été véritablement hors norme, non seulement par l'intensité des épisodes de chaleur, mais aussi par leur durée et leur répétition.
