#Fahrradklau

Alexander Teske wrote that his bicycle was stolen on that day. It was the fifth bicycle theft his family had experienced in two and a half years. After the previous theft, the household insurance had terminated the contract. The bike had been secured with two high-quality locks of different brands to a grid. Teske explained that he had to lock it up on the street because there was no bike storage and parking it inside the house was prohibited. Since he lived in the attic, it was not practical for him to carry the bike up and down every time. There were hardly any secure bike parking spaces available; those that existed were fully booked. Teske questioned the sense of expanding bike paths and promoting environmentally friendly and healthy cycling if bicycles were consistently being stolen. Good bikes had become more expensive and were no longer available for under 1,000 euros, he wrote. In 2024, 11,428 bicycles were reported stolen in Hamburg, of which 440 were recovered. Not all cases were reported, he added. Teske also wrote that the fundamental need for security was being permanently violated, and this could have consequences at some point. #Fahrradklau #Sicherheit #Umweltschutz (translated)
