Ulf Kristersson wrote that many had followed the violent riots in several parts of Europe with dismay in recent days. He described how peaceful protests had turned into clashes, vandalism, and looting, and how shop owners had been affected by violence and destruction. Kristersson emphasized that the right to demonstrate and express opinions peacefully was fundamental in a democratic society. At the same time, he wrote that the indiscriminate violence showed a lack of respect for the values behind open and free societies. He said that violence should never be excused or downplayed and that the boundary needed to be upheld even in Sweden. #Demokrati #MänskligaRättigheter #FredligaProtester (translated)
