Mika Merano announced that he will be a candidate for the Finns Party in the upcoming spring parliamentary elections in the Uusimaa electoral district. He named his main themes as fighting corruption, reforming the use of tax funds, and strengthening the status of the Finnish language and Finnish culture. Merano opposed, among other things, the dual roles of politicians in organizations, political appointments, and directing tax funds to the close circles of politicians. He demanded public impact reports on taxpayer-funded projects and believed that tax funds should benefit Finnish taxpayers. He also opposed development aid, projects that he described as ideological, and unprofitable EU funding requests. In language policy, Merano opposed mandatory Swedish and multiculturalism, which he viewed as narrowing Finnish traditions. He supported a unilingual Finland, conducting business in one's native language, and preserving Finnish cultural heritage. He also suggested that cuts affecting citizens should be made only as a last resort. Merano asked people to spread the word about his candidacy, to join his campaign team, or to support his campaign. He stated that donations would go to the Mika Merano Support Association and would be used entirely for the campaign. According to him, donations could be made via MobilePay to the number 47188 or to the association's account FI19 8146 9710 4278 49. He mentioned that the names of donors contributing at least 1,500 euros would be public. The campaign manager, according to Merano, is marketing professional and Kouvola city councilor Suvi Karell, who coordinates the campaign work. #Suomi #Eduskuntavaalit #Perussuomalaiset (translated)

Sammallahti wrote that Greta Thunberg had said in France that young people were rising in rebellion because the system, in her view, was in conflict with human rights and humanity. Sammallahti interpreted that based on Thunberg's previous speeches, she meant Western market economy and democracy. Sammallahti suggested that the University of Helsinki could study the mass psychosis he described that has spread in the West. He claimed it had raised Thunberg to a cult-like status and said that the media, the academic world, and the left had tried to pressure even whole nation-states to yield to her will. He described Thunberg as far-left and accused her of deceit. https://t.co/6fSmoZpzW1 #ilmastonmuutos #nuorisokapina #demokratia (translated)

Henri Vanhanen wrote that Europe should take a greater role in defining the peace terms for Ukraine. According to him, Donald Trump tried to entice Vladimir Putin to peace with concessions, even though Russia continued the war and new flexibilities were expected from Ukraine. Vanhanen pointed out that Europe spent tens of billions of euros to defend Ukraine but largely let Washington direct the negotiations. Vanhanen demanded Germany resolve the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine and for other countries to strengthen Ukraine’s long-range strike capability. He also suggested that Europe should find a way to more broadly utilize Russia’s frozen state assets of about 200 billion euros, increase pressure on Russia’s oil revenues, and boost military support for Ukraine if the war of aggression continued. He argued that Europe should ensure that Trump’s diplomacy is not based solely on offering new concessions to Russia. https://t.co/pilGKhN9F1 #Eurooppa #Ukraina #Trump (translated)

As a former member of the National Coalition Party, Elina Ketonen wrote that she had been following the party's change in immigration policy with interest. She noted that in a recent poll by Yle, the National Coalition Party had fallen behind the Finns Party, and the party's parliamentary group had presented a strict immigration line. According to Ketonen, this was about the parliamentary group's program, not a directive approved by the party congress. She wrote that the program would not bind the next government nor guarantee concrete decisions during the next term. Ketonen interpreted the shift in line primarily as a bid for votes and assessed that the rhetoric would harden as support weakened. In her view, credibility stemmed from consistent actions, and voters had the right to ask whether the National Coalition Party's line had truly changed or if only the campaign speeches had changed. #maahanmuutto #politiikka #keskustelu (translated)

Veli Karimies claimed that Yle had spread false information about the Finns Party on several issues. According to him, Yle had reported that the Finns Party did not come to the morning studio, even though the party had not even been asked about participation. Karimies also said that Yle was claiming that the distribution obligation had not been on the agenda, even though Yle had reported at the end of September that it had been on the table. He believed that the claims were getting through to people with less information and did not consider the incident an innocent mistake. #Perussuomalaiset #media #valeuutiset (translated)

Petra Nyqvist wondered whether the previously expressed division by the Finns Party that led to the party's split into the "nasty" and "blue" factions had also spread to the National Coalition Party. According to her, there seemed to be an attempt to oust cultured bourgeois values from the party. Nyqvist questioned what the point would be in having two right-wing parties that are both "nasty," which would share core ideas of opposing immigration and attitudes towards racism. She doubted whether there would be enough anti-foreigner voters for two large parties, which she described as being empty in content. #politiikka #maahanmuutto #rasismi (translated)
