During his State of the Union address on Tuesday, President Trump said he would expand access to workplace retirement plans for millions of Americans who didn't already have one, a longtime goal of policymakers in both parties.

Newsweek contacted the White House via email outside of regular working hours for comment. According to AARP, a nonprofit focusing on issues affecting older people, around 56 million private-sector workers are employed by companies that do not offer an employer-sponsored retirement plan.
