Zijn overlijden betekende het verlies van een ervaren vlieger die zich inzette voor de veiligheid van zijn collega's en de uitvoering van de Nederlandse missie. Het nieuws maakte diepe indruk binnen de krijgsmacht en bij zijn familie, vrienden en kameraden. Een militair die zijn land diende vanuit de lucht en tijdens die inzet het hoogste offer bracht. Michael werd slechts 33 jaar oud. Vandaag staan we stil bij zijn naam, zijn inzet en het offer dat hij bracht.
