The renowned Dutch broadcaster 3NOS (Nederlandse Omroep Stichting) Radio 1 Journaal has devoted a full reportage to our Newsstand Theatre, the extraordinary creation of artistic director Francesco Gravino and the theatre company Foyer’97. In an Italy where newsstands are vanishing—declining from 35,000 to fewer than 11,000 within a few decades—San Severo has chosen not to capitulate. Instead, it has transformed a small, disused kiosk into the smallest theatre in the world: a place where creativity finds room even when space itself appears to have run out. The Dutch correspondent, journalist Dr Angelo van Schaik, travelled here to witness it first-hand, astonished by the cultural vitality that can emerge from just a few square metres and from a community that regards theatre as a shared civic good. Today, San Severo speaks to Europe. And it does so with the voice of art.
