THERE ARE PHRASES THAT NOT ONLY PORTRAY THE ONE WHO PRONOUNCES THEM. THEY PORTRAY THE COUNTRY THAT SOME WANT TO BUILD. Lázaro Azorín has recounted in Congress that, when he discovered in his adolescence that he was homosexual, he even thought he should disappear. From the Vox bench, someone shouted at him: "You should have done it." It is hard to imagine a more cruel, miserable, and inhumane expression. It was not a political disagreement. It was wishing death upon a person for being homosexual. I too was that teenager. I also knew fear, silence, and the feeling of being different in a society that taught us to hide. That is why those words weren't directed only at Lázaro Azorín. They have been shouted at all of us. I do not recognize myself in the Spain that this scum intends to build: a Spain in which hatred occupies a seat, homophobia disguises itself as ideology, and some parties make deals with those who would like to see us locked in the closet again… or directly disappeared. Anyone who shouted that barbarity must be identified and punished. And those who normalize Vox, govern with Vox, or remain silent before Vox must know that they are also feeding this climate of hatred. But let it be clear to them: WE DID NOT DISAPPEAR.
