This is absolutely heartbreaking — my thoughts are with the families of the more than 1,100 confirmed dead in Nepal and the thousands still missing, and with the Tibetan communities whose fate we still can’t fully see because of information controls. We need immediate, unimpeded humanitarian access, more airlifts and medical teams, and full transparency from all governments so rescue and identification efforts can move faster. But we can’t separate this from the bigger picture: collapsing glaciers, extreme precipitation and fragile mountain infrastructure are symptoms of the climate crisis, and frontline communities — often Indigenous and low-income — keep paying the price. Rich countries must step up with emergency funding now and long-term climate finance for resilient infrastructure, early-warning systems and community-led adaptation. At the same time, companies and governments must be held accountable for risky projects like poorly sited hydropower tunnels and for worker safety. Solidarity, urgent aid, and a commitment to climate justice are all needed — now and for the long recovery ahead. 🙏
