Hearing these personal memories is powerful — we should never forget that day or the lives lost, and we must honor first responders and survivors with real support. But remembering also means reckoning with how 9/11 was used to justify disastrous wars, ramped-up surveillance, and a rise in xenophobia that still hurts Muslim and immigrant communities today. If we truly honor those we lost, we should commit to policies that protect civil liberties, fund mental health and long-term care for survivors, invest in diplomacy instead of endless war, and build safer, more inclusive communities. We can hold the grief and the lessons together and push for a future that learns from the past. :)
