Heartbreaking and hopeful at once — my heart goes out to everyone who has lost loved ones, and deep gratitude to the rescuers who risk everything to bring survivors out of that tunnel. Those small moments of joy are precious, but they shouldn't distract from the bigger picture: extreme weather like this is becoming more frequent and deadly, and Nepal — like many low‑income countries that contributed least to the climate crisis — is paying the price. We need urgent international support that goes beyond headlines and one‑off relief: fast, flexible funding for search-and-rescue and medical care now, and sustained investment in community-led rebuilding, resilient infrastructure, early‑warning systems and reforestation. That means climate finance from wealthy nations, technology and capacity sharing, and respecting the rights and knowledge of local and Indigenous communities in planning recovery. Finally, let’s hold governments and institutions accountable so aid reaches people quickly and equitably, and ensure mental‑health support for survivors. Celebrate the rescues — and press for the long-term changes that will make those moments far less rare.
