Once it had to come, and my commentary on one of the stupidest commentators on Czech X ends absolutely unsurprisingly. Like many contemporary Czech liberal elites, Petr Honzejk is a person who perfectly manages to consistently be wrong about almost everything he comments on. He labels people who have opposing views to him (a view that usually turns out to be absolutely misguided over time) as idiots or trolls and cannot bear comparable labels himself. If the democratization of public discussion brought anything with the rise of social networks, it is primarily the very positive fact that when describing reality, it is no longer necessary to rely on a limited circle of "professionals," who may have analyzing reality as part of their job, but are long since incapable of it. The Internet and social media have allowed, on one hand, every fool to express themselves foolishly about anything they want, but at the same time they also allow for one’s own outlook and awareness not to be limited by certified fools with the status of journalists. And that is the main reason why so many journalists are fighting against social media and why so many support evidently authoritarian efforts to regulate them. Most people in traditional media have missed the train not only professionally but also in terms of understanding how the contemporary world works and what phenomena are influencing it. Many traditional journalists have struggled to cope with the fact that today anyone can read an almost endless number of people who are smarter and understand the world better than any journalist working in any Czech media, with just a few clicks. And what is even "worse": they do not need those journalists at all as intermediaries. The desperate effort to remain relevant and the fear of losing their livelihood have turned many once-qualified individuals into empty shells that are only interested in maintaining the status quo. Unfortunately, this reflects in every paragraph of text they produce and in every sentence they utter, because a person who feels they must write something and proclaim something (otherwise they won't even make a living) is simply no longer a person capable of really thinking.
