Δεν λέει ότι σε πολλές περιοχές υπήρξαν καθυστερήσεις και προβλήματα στα προγράμματα κουνουποκτονίας, παρότι το κρίσιμο είναι η έγκαιρη προνυμφοκτονία, πριν η πρώτη γενιά των κουνουπιών προλάβει να ενηλικιωθεί και να αναπαραχθεί. Δεν λέει ότι την πάθαμε ΞΑΝΑ από ένα απόλυτα προβλέψιμο φαινόμενο φαινόμενο. Ο ίδιος ο ΕΟΔΥ θεωρεί αναμενόμενη την επανεμφάνιση του Ιού του Δυτικού Νείλου κάθε καλοκαίρι στην Ελλάδα. Άρα οι αρμόδιες αρχές γνωρίζουν εκ των προτέρων ότι πρέπει να είναι έτοιμες. Δεν εξετάζει αν οι Δήμοι είχαν επαρκή χρηματοδότηση, προσωπικό και εγκαίρως ενεργές συμβάσεις. Δεν εξετάζει ποιοι ψεκασμοί έγιναν, πότε έγιναν και αν ήταν αποτελεσματικοί. Λέει όμως για την «ατομική ευθύνη». «Ο καθένας μας δεν πρέπει να εκτίθεται σε κουνούπια». Και μετά μας εξηγεί ότι πρέπει να φοράμε μακριά ρούχα μέσα στο καλοκαίρι και να παίρνουμε άλλα ατομικά μέτρα προστασίας. Προφανώς και πρέπει να προστατεύεται ο καθένας όσο μπορεί. Αλλά η δημόσια υγεία δεν μπορεί να εξαντλείται στο τι θα φορέσει ο πολίτης. Όταν έχουμε έξαρση μιας νόσου που οι αρχές γνωρίζουν εκ των προτέρων ότι επιστρέφει κάθε καλοκαίρι, η δημοσιογραφία οφείλει να ρωτά πρώτα τι έκανε εγκαίρως το κράτος και η Τοπική Αυτοδιοίκηση.
