On the occasion of the return of the relics of Samuel to Bulgaria, as he is considered their national hero, let me remind you what happened to the relics of our own Byzantine heroes by "allies" and enemies. After the fall of the City to the Latins, the tombs of the emperors were broken into for valuable items. The remains of Basil II were contemptuously thrown out of his tomb and they placed a flute in his hands ironically mocking his memory and victories. When in 1453 the second fall of the City occurred, the dervishes went to the church of the Holy Apostles where the Byzantine emperors were buried, and they broke all the bones of the emperors with clubs. This is to know with what kind of people we have and still have to deal with. So that we never forget how we must treat everyone in the East and the West. (translated)
