Nikolas Apelaios II described the days leading up to the Italian attack on Greece, from October 23 to 27, 1940, stating that the Greek ambassador in Rome had informed the government that the attack was expected between October 25 and 28. According to him, Italian reconnaissance aircraft were photographing military points of interest, while senior Greek officials considered the attack imminent. Apelaios reported that on October 24, Ioannis Metaxas recorded in his diary rumors of an attack the next day and informed the chiefs of staff to remain in Athens or to notify where they were. On October 25, according to the post, Metaxas informed the Cabinet about the concentration of Italian troops at the border, and the government rejected both substantial territorial concessions and symbolic gestures toward Italy. He noted that Metaxas and his ministers did not attend the premiere of the opera "Madama Butterfly" at the Royal Theater on October 25, in the presence of Antonio Puccini and Curzio Malaparte. From the government, as he wrote, Deputy Foreign Minister Mavroudis and Deputy Minister of Press Nikolidis attended. The next day, Ambassador Politis reported that the Athens–Rome airline had been suspended until further notice. In his narrative, at the reception of the Italian embassy on October 26, Ambassador Grazzi was often absent, while on the upper floor the ultimatum to Greece was being dictated from Rome. Nikolidis called Metaxas early on October 27 regarding reports of incidents at the border. Apelaios noted that the Athens News Agency denied the news at 04:00, following an order from Metaxas. Apelaios also wrote that, on October 27, Greek and Italian officers met to discuss the incidents, while the Greek government was receiving information about the movements of Italian units towards the border. He added that shortly after Metaxas left his office, information arrived from the Italian embassy that a declaration of war was imminent, but it was decided not to inform him. According to him, the Prime Minister's car departed for Kifisia without him knowing the information. #Ιστορία #Ελλάδα #ΔεύτεροςΠαγκόσμιοςΠόλεμος (translated)

As stated in the Report of the Investigative Committee of the Hellenic Parliament regarding the Cyprus File, in early July 1974, the Commander of the Commandos in Cyprus, Colonel Konstantinos Kompoki, convened a meeting of the Commanders of the Commando Squadrons to announce the implementation of the plan to overthrow President Makarios. The junta members did not invite Katsanis. Not coincidentally. They knew he would not legitimize such a blatant crime. General Katsanis became a symbol of bravery, courage, and patriotism, and the extent of tributes in his name, the camps, the monuments, the busts, the naming ceremonies, and all that has been done in honor of his sacrifice, in Cyprus and Greece, reflect the due recognition of his contribution and sacrifice, said Minister of Defense Vasilis Palamas, in a speech on behalf of the President of the Republic at the presentation of the book "George Katsanis, the Commander of Saint Hilarion and His Legacy." #Κατσάνης #Ελευθερία #Κύπρος (translated)

Amalia accused Russia of deliberately launching attacks against civilians in Ukraine, citing strikes on apartment buildings, schools, shopping centers, public transport, playgrounds, and bridges. She argued that most of the victims were Russian-speaking individuals in Eastern Ukraine and criticized those who, as she wrote, showed sensitivity towards Palestine and Iran in Greece, but not towards Ukrainians. Regarding the recent strikes, she mentioned that in Pryluky, Chernihiv Oblast, 22 civilians were killed, including 5 children—three of them one year old—and 54 were injured. For Kramatorsk in Donetsk Oblast, she wrote that two city buses were attacked and 33 people were killed, while the number of injured remained unknown. She added that 9 people were also killed in Kyiv, 2 in Kremenchuk, 2 in Konotop, 2 in Oleksandriia, and 1 in Zaporizhzhia, raising the death toll of civilian casualties over the two days to 71, according to her. Regarding the negotiations with U.S. intervention, Amalia claimed that Zelensky was accepting a ceasefire with the troops in their current positions and was asking for guarantees from the West. She stated that pro-Russian separatist forces controlled 60% of Donetsk Oblast before the Russian invasion of 2022, that since then the Russian army had captured an additional 20%, and that it had not managed to capture the remaining 20%. She asserted that Putin did not want a ceasefire, but a peace agreement that would require Zelensky to go to Moscow, the demilitarization of Ukraine, a constitutional commitment not to seek EU or NATO membership, and the recognition of the territories occupied by Russia since 2014, including Crimea. She added that Russia was also demanding the surrender of the remaining 20% of Donetsk Oblast that it had not captured. Amalia compared the situation to Cyprus, where, as she wrote, since August 1974 a ceasefire had been in effect under UN supervision, without a permanent peace agreement, because Turkey demanded recognition of the loss of territories and the pseudostate. She concluded that Russia sought, in her view, the humiliation of Ukraine and not peace. #Ουκρανία #Ειρήνη #Πόλεμος (translated)
