Today the extradition of alias "Spider" to the United States became effective. As President of the Republic, I personally handed over Geovany Andrés Rojas, alias "Spider," leader of the Border Commandos and wanted by U.S. justice. The Supreme Court of Justice authorized his extradition, and I signed it without delay. With this decision, there have now been 94 extraditions carried out during my Government. This act represents much more than the delivery of a criminal. It is a clear message about the determination of the Colombian State to confront drug trafficking, strike its structures, and strengthen cooperation with our allies to combat a criminal phenomenon that transcends our borders. Drug trafficking has financed violence, terrorism, and organizations that have inflicted pain on our territory for decades. That is why we are acting against the entire criminal chain: illegal crops, laboratories, routes, finances, and the leaders who enrich themselves at the cost of the blood and tranquility of our citizens. Colombia will no longer be a refuge for drug traffickers wanted by international justice. Those who intend to use our territory to produce, transport, or market cocaine will have to answer to justice and face the full weight of the State. To Colombians, I reiterate my commitment: we will continue working to reclaim the territory, protect our families, and restore peace to the regions affected by these organizations. And to criminals, I leave an equally clear message: the State will pursue them, capture them, and, when appropriate according to the law, extradite them. The security of Colombia is not delegated.
