Non solo da chi conosce poco il tennis, ma soprattutto da chi è spesso annebbiato da un pregiudizio su Jannik fondato sulla malafede. L'assenza in questo Masters 1000 era già stata decisa dopo il trionfo a Wimbledon. La programmazione deve prevedere tempi di recupero adeguati. Una gestione programmata per ricaricare testa e fisico, dopo lo sforzo immenso dei tanti tornei giocati nei mesi precedenti. Il n.1 si iscrive ai tornei per vincerli e inevitabilmente gioca ogni volta più partite di tutti. Dopo aver trionfato in cinque Masters 1000 di fila nel 2026, Jannik ha scelto di arrivare al top della condizione per provare a vincere anche lo Slam a Flushing Meadow nelle prime due settimane di settembre. Chi gli rimprovera la rinuncia a poter diventare, sempre potenzialmente, il primo giocatore nella storia in grado di vincere tutti i Masters 1000 in una stagione, tralascia un particolare.
