Le Canard enchaîné denounced a "gigantic police fiasco" on October 17. The weekly wrote that Laurent Nuñez had left 14 companies of CRS (French riot police) at rest, as the Minister of the Interior and his intelligence services believed that the movement would lose momentum with the start of the school holidays. He criticized them for not anticipating either the number of protesters or the rapprochement between the far-left and young people from the suburbs. The newspaper also claimed that one CRS company had been assigned to protect the chocolate shops of Brigitte Macron's brother, in Amiens and Le Touquet, while the rest of France was lacking CRS. https://t.co/QZN5YYWWIp #Fiasco #Manifestation #Policiers (translated)

Costantino De Blasi wrote that on the night of July 9 to 10, 1992, the Amato government had decided on a forced withdrawal of 6 per thousand from private bank accounts. He defined the measure as extreme and claimed that, in agreement with the Treasury Minister Goria, much of the government had been kept in the dark. According to De Blasi, the withdrawal had yielded about 11 trillion lira, equal to 6 billion euros, but had caused greater damage. He wrote that capital had fled abroad and that the global Comit index had dropped from 500 points in January to 360 in September. He added that, to place government bonds after unsuccessful auctions, the Treasury had to increase yields. De Blasi also stated that the debt-to-GDP ratio had risen by 10 points, from 107% to 117%, and that debt servicing had exceeded 100 billion euros for the first time. He indicated that the absolute change in the debt stock between 1992 and 1993 was 112 billion, also attributing it to an extraordinary issuance of bonds decided in October to replenish public coffers. He ultimately claimed that the cost of higher interest payments had exceeded the revenue from the withdrawal. De Blasi added that he was preparing a podcast for Liberi Oltre on the economic history of the Second Republic, starting from that night. #Economia #Storia #Italiano (translated)
