Na hrdinu z australské pláže Ahmeda al Ahmeda se během 24 hodin vybralo už milion a čtvrt dolarů. V nemocnici, kde leží ve vážném stavu, ho navštívil premiér. Ahmed je podle Guardianu muslim, Australan původem ze syrského Idlíbu, odkud se odstěhoval v roce 2006. Je mu 43 let, je otcem dvou malých dívek a vlastní obchod s ovocem. Na Bondi Beach byl na kávě s kamarádem, když viděl co se děje. Když střelec vystřílel zásobník, využil příležitosti a vrhl se na něj. Sílu mu prý dal Bůh. Druhý střelec ho zasáhl nejméně čtyřikrát do ramene. Je po první operaci, má bolesti a čekají ho další dvě až tři. Podle jeho rodičů, kteří se ze Sýrii přistěhovali do Austrálie teprve před několika měsíci, by Ahmed ochránil každého bez ohledu na národnost či vyznání. -
