The competitiveness of the European Union (EU) is a strategic security issue, emphasized Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, who participated in a meeting of the Arraiolos Group in the Slovenian town of Brdo near Kranj on Thursday and Friday. According to presidential advisor Mārtiņš Drēģeris, Rinkēvičs believes that the EU must invest in the development of technology and artificial intelligence and must prevent overregulation, finding a balance between the protection of citizens' rights and the opportunities for European companies to develop and be globally competitive. Rinkēvičs noted that EU security is closely linked to the security of Ukraine, which is why support for Ukraine must continue in all forms, especially during the autumn and winter period when Russia intensifies its attacks on Ukraine's civilian and energy infrastructure. At the same time, Rinkēvičs acknowledged that political reform may be necessary for the admission of new member states to the EU. #EiropasSavienība #drošība #Ukraina (translated)
