Seine Begründung: sein sehr gutes Verhältnis zu Kim Jong Un. Danach beschwert er sich über die Kosten und darüber, dass Amerika wie üblich den größten Teil zahle. Vor allem aber seien die Übungen ein völlig unangemessenes und feindseliges Signal an Nordkorea. Das Land habe sich, solange Trump Präsident sei, nicht bedrohlich und respektvoll verhalten. Gemeint ist Nordkorea. Das Land, das die Ukraine bombardiert und damit auch uns in Europa. Weil eine Absage inzwischen zu spät kommt, soll der amerikanische Verteidigungsminister die Übungen nun erheblich zusammenstreichen. Und dann erzählt Trump noch etwas, das angeblich nur „irgendwie nichts damit zu tun“ habe: Er habe den südkoreanischen Präsidenten gefragt, ob sein Land die USA bei der Denuklearisierung Irans unterstützen wolle. Die Antwort: Nein danke. Das Fragezeichen in Klammern (?), das Trump selbst hinter den angeblich fehlenden Zusammenhang setzt, ist fast der interessanteste Teil des Posts. Denn natürlich liegt die Frage nahe, ob beides miteinander zu tun hat. Tauschen wir mal kurz die Namen: Kim Jong Un gegen Putin. Südkorea gegen Polen. Ulchi Freedom Shield gegen Steadfast Defender, also das NATO-Manöver, bei dem geübt wird, wie Amerika im Ernstfall Truppen an die Ostflanke bringt. Dann steht da: Ich reduziere die Verteidigung Polens, weil ich mich mit Putin so super toll verstehe. Die Übungen sind teuer und ein feindseliges Signal an ein Land, das sich unter meiner Präsidentschaft respektvoll verhalten hat. Übrigens, völlig unabhängig davon (?), habe ich Warschau um etwas gebeten und ein Nein bekommen. Das Bauprinzip bleibt exakt dasselbe. Und genau das ist der Punkt: Eine Bündniszusage wird zur Ware. Wer nicht liefert, bekommt weniger Schutz – und erfährt es nachts aus dem Internet. Thomas Jäger stellt die eigentlich entscheidende Frage: Falls im Auswärtigen Amt gerade jemand keinen Urlaub macht, wäre es angemessen, für den nächsten Morgen eine Initiative gegenüber Südkorea, Japan und den Philippinen vorzubereiten. Denn was diese Länder gerade erleben, kennt Europa schon: Wir sind keine Verbündeten mehr, wir sind Kunden, die gefälligst zu spuren haben, sonst gibt's nix mehr.
