Архимед је био за својим таблетом када га је убио римски војник. Звучи природно? Не баш. А ипак, управо ту можемо стићи ако прошлост довољно „ажурирамо“. Готово свака култура има модернизована издања старијих аутора, уз расправе о правопису, речнику, уредничким напоменама и прилагођавању савременом читаоцу. Један антиквар ми је једном рекао да „патина времена даје вредност“ и да може да направи разлику између оригинала и јефтине копије. Отварам „Недељне есеје“ Константина Нојке, долазим до предговора издавача у издању Humanitas из 1992. године и сазнајем да је „правопис ажуриран“. Читање Нојке могло је да буде шетња кроз тридесете и четрдесете године 20. века. Уместо тога, том епохом шетамо са модерним наочарима, удобно смештени у Uber-у, без страха да ћемо се изгубити — односно да нећемо разумети речи тог времена, које су једноставно могле бити „преведене“ у фуснотама. Шта би било када бисмо узели и новине из тог времена па их „ажурирали“? А можда бисмо могли да урадимо и rebranding тадашњих реклама, како не бисмо превише оптерећивали своје неуроне, као да смо у escape room-у. Зашто стати ту? Могли бисмо да ажурирамо и уџбенике историје и напишемо да је Архимеда из Сиракузе убио римски војник док је радио математику на свом таблету. Основна идеја остаје иста, зар не? Само епоха нестаје. И још нешто: зашто математичари не „ажурирају“ Питагору? Могу да промене ознаке. Могу другачије да објасне доказ. Могу чак да направе цртеж online, помоћу анимације која настаје пред очима ученика. Али Питагорина теорема остаје Питагорина теорема. Па када читамо старијег аутора, зашто не бисмо сачували и језик његовог времена — а савремена објашњења ставили у напомене?
