Borut Rončević stated that he led a delegation with the head of the cabinet Breda Mulec, the acting general director for science Andrej Vastl, and the ambassador to Japan Jurij Rifelj. According to him, its composition was comparable to that of other foreign delegations and in line with long-standing practice. He added that the government approves the delegation before each trip and that its members have the right to travel with the minister. He wrote that as a minister he represents the state and will not opt for populist moves, such as what he believes was Luka Mesec's two-day trip by train to Brussels and showcasing a sandwich. He believed the story could be highlighted by leftist media and their political allies in the opposition. Rončević also noted that in a few months he reduced the number of employees at the ministry by nearly 5 percent and eliminated over 10 million euros in unnecessary expenses. He emphasized that, according to him, they handle public money responsibly, and the trip was more expensive than desired due to scheduling and the availability of airline tickets. #vlada #slovenija #odgovornost (translated)

He stated that the airline tickets were purchased through a public procurement process. He added that representatives of the Slovenian government have been attending the STS forum for many years. At the 13th forum in 2016, according to him, the then Prime Minister Miro Cerar participated, and in the following years, several ministers and state secretaries responsible for science have attended the event.
