Is Roel Nollet, de journalist die voor @vrtnws verslag uitbrengt op Ceuta, lid van Extinction Rebellion? Daar lijkt het wel op. Lees even mee. 👇 @vrtnws kreeg de afgelopen dagen online veel kritiek. Op beelden zien we hoe een minderjarige jongen in #Ceuta aanwijzingen krijgt over hoe hij zich moet gedragen voor de camera. @vrtnws ontkent die aantijgingen in een uitgebreid artikel met op zich aannemelijke redenen. Desondanks blijft het vreemd om de focus te leggen op de vluchtende kinderen in Ceuta. 99% van de migranten die Ceuta bestormden waren mannen van militaire leeftijd. De prioriteit ligt dus blijkbaar niet bij de objectieve waarheid. De journalist die die reportage maakte, is Roel Nollet. Voor Nollet journalist werd, was hij werkzaam in het asielcentrum van Lint. Hij hielp er asielzoekers met hun asielprocedure. Raar dat VRT een freelancejournalist stuurt die duidelijk ideologisch enorm betrokken is bij het thema waar hij neutraal verslag over moet uitbrengen, toch? Maar daar stopt het niet. Nollet richtte in 2009 'The Redhorse Collective' op. Een nieuwsmedium dat vooral gefocust is op 'human rights issues'. Met dat collectief is Nollet de vaste verslaggever op alle acties van Extinction Rebellion in België. Achteraf maakt hij daar kritiekloze reportages over, waarin meestal uitsluitend het narratief van @ExtinctionR wordt gebracht. De acties van Extinction Rebellion zijn meestal misdaden. Het is een enorm risico voor dat soort organisaties om proactief journalisten mee te nemen. Behalve wanneer je die blind kan vertrouwen omdat ze bijvoorbeeld lid zijn natuurlijk. Het is moeilijk om met 100% zekerheid te zeggen dat Nollet lid is van Extinction Rebellion omdat extreemlinkse verenigingen die criminele activiteiten uitvoeren natuurlijk geen formele ledenlijst bijhouden. Er zijn echter nog aanwijzingen. Zo noemt één van de reportages die Redhorse over Extinction Rebellion schreef: "Inside a Rebel's Mind". Nollet zijn eigen podcast noemt dan weer: "Redhorse Rebel Radio". Vreemde marketing voor een journalist. Het werk van Nollet wordt niet alleen uitgezonden door @vrtnws, maar uiteraard ook door @AlJazeera. Het internationale nieuwsmedium van de koninklijke familie van Qatar dat de fake news controverses aan elkaar rijgt. In zijn eigen bio omschrijft Nollet zich onder andere als: "Gelooft in klimaatverandering. Nu handelen alstublieft". Wederom een opvallende ideologische betrokkenheid voor een journalist. Of hij effectief lid is van Extinction Rebellion is dus moeilijk te zeggen, maar daar lijkt het minstens wel op. Omwille van zijn duidelijk ideologische betrokkenheid als voorstander van meer migratie en bij extreemlinkse verenigingen is het in ieder geval wel duidelijk dat VRT NWS beter geen beroep op hem zou doen om verslag uit te brengen over die thema's.
