The Austrian glacier Pasterze, still the largest in the country, is rapidly shrinking and is at risk of soon losing its top position due to significant retreat of the ice and reduction of the Hufeisenbruch glacier, which would lead to its division and make it a less significant glacier compared to Gepatschferner in Tyrol.
A huge piece of ice measuring 76 square kilometers has detached from the Petermann glacier in Greenland, marking the largest separation in the last 14 years, and scientists are now monitoring further cracks that could lead to additional ice release. (translated)

The average global sea surface temperature has reached a record 21.1 °C, which is the highest value since the mid-19th century, and the main cause of this increase is the El Niño phenomenon, which amplifies the long-term effects of human-induced global warming. (translated)

In France, the heatwave has lasted for 23 days and has matched the historical record from 1983, leading to more than 7000 additional deaths and increasing the risk of wildfires and landslides in the Alps. (translated)

This year's mushroom-picking season in the Czech Republic is considered by experts to be one of the worst in recent years, as hard and dry soil hinders the growth of mushrooms, and climate change further complicates the situation by affecting the underground networks of mycorrhizal fungi, on which trees and other plants depend. The analysis from Triodos Bank warns that drought and heat could cost the EU up to 4.5 trillion crowns due to lower agricultural production, higher food prices, and limited energy production, with France being the most affected country, followed by Germany and Italy, while Poland should cope with the situation relatively well. Radim Tolasz, a climate change expert from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, warns that in the fight against drought, we must not focus solely on the construction of dams, but it is necessary to adopt comprehensive measures, because drought and floods are increasingly alternating in Central Europe and the situation is complicated by frequent extremes in weather. The government has renewed the National Coalition Against Drought and plans to increase spending to combat this issue by four billion crowns, with legislation for the construction of water reservoirs also being prepared, which will be the topic of a special broadcast on Radiožurnál. (translated)

The nature of this summer is somewhat apocalyptic. Climate change, uncontrolled development of new technologies, mass migration, and military conflicts of a new kind, as well as the rise of techno-fascism, are merging into a "perfect storm."
