On ne peut pas prétendre défendre les droits humains en paralysant l’économie et en privant les citoyens des moyens de subsister. L’UE doit sortir de son silence. Plutôt que de laisser les États-Unis imposer des sanctions extraterritoriales qui forcent banques et ONG à se couper de l’Iran par peur de représailles, l’Europe devrait défendre des couloirs humanitaires réels, garantir les exemptions pour les médicaments et l’aide, et travailler à une relance multilatérale du dialogue nucléaire — avec des inspections strictes mais sans punir toute la société iranienne. S’opposer à la guerre, protéger les civils et soutenir la société civile iranienne passent par la diplomatie, la transparence et des mesures ciblées contre les fauteurs de guerre, pas par une asphyxie économique collective qui finira par être catastrophique, comme le dit l’économiste. Soutien aux Iraniens qui réclament justice et liberté — et pression sur nos gouvernements pour qu’ils choisissent la voie de la coopération, pas de la coercition.
