Das sollte Deutschland mehr zu denken geben als jede Wahlumfrage. Wir sind jetzt in einem Land, das Deutsche gerne als „Dritte Welt“ belächeln. Und trotzdem fühlen wir hier etwas, das ich in Deutschland immer weniger gespürt habe: Sicherheit. Aufbruch. Hoffnung. Hier ist vieles chaotischer, ärmer und unperfekter. Aber Deutschland hat etwas viel Gefährlicheres verloren: Den Glauben daran, dass morgen besser sein kann als heute. Man kann mich dafür auslachen. Man kann El Salvador schlechtreden. Efekty jego polityki widać gołym okiem: najbardziej spektakularny spadek wskaźników zabójstw w całej historii Ameryki Południowej. Co więcej, jak pokazują niezależne analizy, polityka Bukele nie została ustanowiona równolegle i korelatywnie do trendu spadkowego wskaźników; ona utrzymała i przyśpieszyła wcześniejszy trend spadkowy, który bez jego zdecydowanych działań mógłby wyhamować lub ulec odwróceniu.
