In his introductory speech as co-curator of the exhibition at SFMOMA, RM talked about how art entered his life eight years ago and how he never imagined he would one day be presenting his own exhibition. He explained that for him, art and music are different languages, but both seek to communicate something. He also reflected on his role as a collector, his own contradictions, and how a collection can honestly show who a person is. To select the works, he asked himself two questions: "Does it really move me?" and "Does this artist and this work still have something to say to us in 2026?" As a young Korean, he also wanted to bring together different times, places, and perspectives, and to introduce the public to works by modern and contemporary Korean artists who are still little known outside of Korea. In the end, he defined this exhibition as his "calling card": a way to show exactly who he is while inviting more people to discover how fun and rewarding it can be to engage with art.
