Uszi 12h

Uszi wrote that the animals were taken from the Łączna Zoo, and the results of the prosecutor's examination were supposed to be known before the services entered the area. He cited disclosed chats of the activists, from which — he claimed — it followed that they had divided the animals among themselves a few days before the operation. According to Uszi, both activists and the Dutch pointed to the key role of the Ministry of Climate and Environment, and Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska accused others of lying in their statements. The author also wrote that the taken tiger would not return to Poland. He claimed that Stichting Leeuw sends the seized predators to a private reserve in Africa, where luxurious safaris can be booked through Booking.com. #Zoo #Wydarzenia #OchronaZwierząt (translated)

The author of the post claimed that the actions at the Łączna Zoo were a coordinated attack by animal rights organizations with police assistance. According to him, the goal was to take valuable animals and sell them, while less valuable ones were possibly to be transported to a slaughterhouse and disposed of. He added that these organizations had "doors wide open." #zoo #prozwierzęta #ochronazwierząt #PL (translated)

Jack Strong wrote that the most expensive animals were taken from the zoo, including lemurs valued at 18,000 zł each. According to him, a total of 30 animals worth over half a million zł were taken, while the cheaper ones were left behind. He added that the owner was handcuffed and faced arrest. He asked who would take care of the remaining animals and who would visit the zoo deprived of its biggest attractions. He also wondered whether the actions were taken for the good of the animals or to ruin the owner. #zwierzęta #zoo #ochronazwierząt (translated)

Krzysztof Bosak wrote to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Climate and Environment and the department that he considered the well-being of people to be more important than the well-being of animals. He argued that the disorganization of the zoo and the imprisonment of its creator, whose place was valued by the residents, did not serve the well-being of the animals. #ochronazwierząt #prawo #społeczeństwo (translated)

Jacek Zarzecki wrote that the events at the Łączna Zoo went according to his earlier predictions. He accused the organizations involved in the action of withdrawing from responsibility after it started, pointing out in statements, among others, the prosecutor's office, police, and inspection. He mentioned MONDO CANE among them. According to Zarzecki, it was the organizations that filed notifications, provided materials not verified by the prosecutor's office, entered the premises, and caught and transported animals. He also criticized private associations and foundations, claiming they have powers that should belong exclusively to the state and that accountability for their actions is difficult. Zarzecki called for organizations to be stripped of the right to intervene in the seizure of animals. He wrote that work was ongoing in the Sejm on amending the Animal Protection Act, and that the seizure of animals should be handled by services that document their actions and are responsible for decisions. He stated that the action in Łączna should be the last of its kind. #OchronaZwierząt #Polska #Sejm (translated)

Grzegorz Macko 3d

Grzegorz Macko reported that in Mieroszów he participated in a crisis management team regarding the situation at the zoo in Łączna, and then met with protesters outside the garden. During the meeting, as he relayed, he learned from the police chief in Wałbrzych that the Ministry of Climate and Environment, led by Paulina Henning-Kloska, had been involved in discussions about transporting animals from Poland to the Netherlands for some time. Macko wrote that the zoo fence was damaged and more foundations were withdrawing from activities on its premises and taking over the animals. He accused the voivode, Anna Żabska from the Civic Coalition, of convening the crisis team but not attending it herself. According to him, there was chaos on the spot, no one responsible for coordination, and institutions did not indicate who would take care of the animals after the organizations withdrew. He added that the police officers moved among the animals and provided them with water. He conveyed that a representative of the prosecutor's office said during the crisis team that activities were completed the previous day. Macko added that in the afternoon the court did not grant the prosecutor's request to arrest the owner of the zoo. The politician emphasized that in his opinion, politicians and residents should not decide who is right in the dispute or assess whether irregularities occurred. However, he considered it the politicians' duty to evaluate the actions of state services. He described the situation at the zoo as an example of serious communication, organizational, and perhaps legal problems. He also wrote that the case showed, as he assessed, a broader dysfunction of the state, also in terms of animal welfare. #ZOO #OchronaZwierząt #Kryzys (translated)

Konrad Krasuski 3d

Konrad Krasuski described the chaos surrounding the zoo in Łączna, where — as he wrote — there were clashes with the police, and officers with shields pushed back residents defending the facility. He presented both sides of the dispute. According to Krasuski's account, the prosecution alleged that hundreds of animals were being abused and malnourished, and some were suffering or had died. Five people were arrested and charged; none admitted guilt. The prosecution also requested the temporary arrest of the zoo director. The owners, on the other hand, described the confiscation of the animals as an unprecedented action. Krasuski wrote that residents were coming to the zoo to block transports, and accusations of animal theft were appearing online. He also mentioned revealed screenshots of conversations from the foundation about the division of the animals, a recording warning about the action, and concerns regarding the safety of the transport, conditions in the new places, and the reliability of the experts. Krasuski stated that he was on-site and spoke with people involved in the case, including anonymously with an employee of the Veterinary Inspection. He also attended a press conference held by the prosecution and spoke with a lawyer for the owners. He announced that he would look into what initiated the case and how events escalated the previous night. #ZooŁączna #protest #ochronazwierząt (translated)

Konrad Krasuski 4d

Konrad Krasuski wrote that he spoke with an anonymous employee of the Veterinary Inspection about the situation around the zoo in Łączna. According to the informant, on October 2, during the Animal Rights Congress in the Senate, the Chief Veterinary Officer and representatives of the General Directorate for Environmental Protection were present, and discussions were already underway in the corridors about a future intervention at the zoo. The employee emphasized that identifying irregularities during an inspection does not automatically mean that animals must be taken away. As Krasuski reported, the informant distinguished between deficiencies that could be ordered to be corrected — such as an insufficient enclosure for a tiger — and situations where the animal's welfare is threatened enough to warrant immediate removal. He also assessed that there was no reason not to trust the District Veterinary Officer in Wałbrzych. According to the employee, the veterinarian had held this position since around 2015, had extensive knowledge, and difficult cases were consulted with him; in his opinion, animal removal was not necessary. The informant alleged that the authority of the Veterinary Inspection was being publicly undermined, and the responsibility for systemic problems fell on individual veterinarians. He claimed that after subsequent media scandals, district veterinarians were being changed, but this did not lead to real reforms. He also pointed out the lack of uniform procedures, support, specialized training related to zoo inspections, and a joint protocol for such inspections. He critically assessed the advisory teams at the Chief Veterinary Officer. As Krasuski conveyed, the employee believed that individuals associated with animal protection and social sciences had a significant impact on the discussion, while the knowledge and experience of veterinarians and field inspectors were being marginalized. He also noted that actions concerning the removal of animals from the zoo in Łączna were to be undertaken about six months after the notification, while the investigation by the same prosecutor's office concerning DIOZ lasted much longer. The employee stressed that the transport of wild and exotic animals, when necessary, requires prior preparations: acclimatizing the animal to the transport crate and ensuring the presence of a familiar caretaker. According to him, severe stress can lead some species to refuse food, panic, or self-harm. The informant also indicated that veterinarians were asked very short notice about the possibility of sedating animals before transport and assessed that such an operation should not be organized ad hoc. As Krasuski reported, the employee believed that transport could be justified in direct threat to life or health, but in other circumstances, the transport itself and the associated stress could also pose significant risks to the animals. #OchronaZwierząt #ZOO #Weterynaria (translated)
