On promet la sécurité, la prospérité, l'emploi, le pouvoir d'achat, et c'est bien normal. Mais la beauté ? Jamais. Comme si elle était un luxe, un supplément dont on pourrait se passer, une affaire de poètes et non de politiques. C'est une erreur profonde. La beauté d'une ville n'est pas un ornement. C'est une condition de la vie heureuse. Elle pèse sur notre moral, sur notre fierté, sur notre désir de rester ou de partir. Elle pèse sur tout. Partout, le fonctionnalisme a chassé l'esthétique. Partout, le banal a remplacé le beau. Il faut bien comprendre ceci : l'enlaidissement de notre pays n'est pas un accident. C'est le résultat d'une idéologie qui méprise l'héritage, qui considère la beauté comme suspecte, élitiste, réactionnaire. La gauche municipale ne détruit pas le mobilier historique de Paris par incompétence. Elle le fait par conviction. Elle remplace le beau par le neutre, le singulier par le générique, l'âme par la norme. Il en va de même ici pour madame Braun-Pivet. Et les Français, sans pouvoir toujours mettre un mot sur ce qu'ils ressentent, ont le sentiment diffus, douloureux, que leur pays n'est plus tout à fait leur pays. Que quelque chose s'efface.
