“Parlare di Covid fa perdere voti.” Davvero, Ministro? Sono queste le parole che mai avrei voluto sentire da un collega medico. Non da un medico qualsiasi.
Dal Ministro della Salute Orazio #Schillaci. Perché mentre oggi si fanno i conti con i voti, noi durante la pandemia facevamo i conti con i letti, i respiratori, i turni massacranti, le telefonate alle famiglie e le persone che morivano. Noi eravamo lì. Eravamo lì quando gli ospedali erano pieni.
Quando mancava il personale.
Quando tornavamo a casa esausti e avevamo paura di contagiare i nostri familiari.
Quando abbiamo visto colleghi ammalarsi.
Quando abbiamo dovuto assistere persone sole, senza nemmeno poter stringere loro una mano. Abbiamo fatto il nostro lavoro. Abbiamo pagato un prezzo altissimo. E oggi scopriamo che parlare di quella tragedia “fa perdere voti”? Che tristezza. Il Covid non è un tema elettorale.
È memoria. È sanità pubblica. È responsabilità. È storia. E soprattutto è la storia di migliaia di sanitari che non hanno potuto permettersi di chiedersi quanti voti avrebbero perso. Dovevano solo esserci. E ci siamo stati. Per questo, da medico, quelle parole mi fanno ancora più male. Perché da un collega avrei voluto sentire una cosa molto semplice: “Non dimenticheremo mai quello che è successo.” Non: “Meglio non parlarne, perché fa perdere voti.” La salute delle persone non dovrebbe mai essere misurata in consenso elettorale.
