Nesnažím se to nijak mazat ani omlouvat. On sám se za to omluvil. Byla to součást jeho života v době komunistického režimu. Jenže pak přišla revoluce. Pavel svůj další profesní život nezasvětil budování komunismu. Naopak. Pokračoval v armádě demokratického státu, stal se náčelníkem Generálního štábu Armády ČR a nakonec předsedou Vojenského výboru NATO. Takže mi někdo, prosím, vysvětlete jednu věc: Jak přesně může být jeho členství v KSČ před rokem 1989 důkazem, že je dnes „komunista“, zatímco u Klause a Zemana je jejich členství v KSČ jaksi možné velkoryse odsunout do složky „to už přece bylo dávno“? Buď je pro vás komunistická minulost zásadní kritérium u všech, nebo není. Nemůžete si vytvořit pravidlo jen pro prezidenta, kterého nemáte rádi. Tohle už není zásadovost, nýbrž dvojí metr převlečený za jakýsi morální postoj. Petr Pavel nemusí být váš politický ideál. Můžete kritizovat jeho rozhodnutí, jeho názory i jeho výkon funkce. Ale nazývat člověka v roce 2026 „komunistou“ jen proto, že byl v roce 1988 členem KSČ, je stejně intelektuálně poctivé jako označit každého, kdo někdy udělal chybu ve dvaceti, za stejného člověka i o třicet let později. Minulost je důležitá. Ale člověk není navždy odsouzen k tomu, kým byl před revolucí. A jestli opravdu věříte, že členství v KSČ člověka automaticky diskvalifikuje na celý život, pak by bylo fér začít stejným metrem u všech.
