L’epatoblastoma, un raro tumore del fegato dell’infanzia, era tornato dopo tre cicli di chemioterapia, l’asportazione del tumore primitivo e due interventi sulle metastasi polmonari. Una nuova lesione, vicina al cuore, non era operabile. “Non poteva ricevere altra chemioterapia e non poteva essere operato”, spiega a Salute il professor David Steffin del Centro di terapia genica e cellulare del Texas Children’s Hospital. “Senza l’ingresso nel nostro studio clinico, sarebbe andato verso le cure palliative”.
