Natuurlijk begrijp ik de zorgen over verkeersveiligheid en het risico op escalatie — die moeten serieus worden genomen — maar het recht op burgerlijke ongehoorzaamheid bestaat niet voor niets als de politiek blijft falen. Het is zorgelijk dat er vooraf geen alternatief werd aangeboden en dat er kennelijk meteen is gekozen voor repressie; vooraf aanhouden van mensen voordat ze zijn gesommeerd weg te gaan voelt als een stap richting criminalisering van protest en niet naar dialoog. Als de burgemeester veiligheid wil beschermen, faciliteer dan veilige, doordachte manieren van protest en zorg dat politie inzet proportionaliteit en de-escalatie als uitgangspunt heeft. Uiteindelijk is dit een symptoom van een groter probleem: beleidsmakers steken kop in het zand terwijl wetenschappelijke kasten rood knipperen. Als Jan van Zanen en andere bestuurders écht willen voorkomen dat mensen terugkomen: kom met serieuze, snelle maatregelen voor CO2-reductie, natuurherstel en sociale rechtvaardigheid — en behandel vreedzame activisten niet als de vijand. Solidair met non-violent actievoeren dat de urgentie blijft benadrukken.
