Many colleagues do not accept the positions, whether they are doctors or nurses, because we have reached extremes regarding rents. I recently heard something that outraged me, it makes me ashamed as a Cretan, because I am Cretan. A colleague who came from Thessaloniki and had to quickly take the position of a nurse, is paying for an apartment—an apartment... 15 square meters—an outrageous price of 450 euros! It is tragic. And being told “free up the other one next door that is 40 for 750.” Not in the center of Chania, outside the center of Chania. This same person who rents this expects the hospital to have nurses, to have doctors, for everything to run smoothly when he arrives, when he or his family needs it... Stefanos Polioudakis, Thoracic Surgeon at Chania Hospital. (translated)
