Haastattelu tehdään englanniksi, sillä kumpikaan heistä osaa suomea kovin hyvin.” Perhe on muuttanut Suomeen 2008 ja lapset ovat syntyneet Suomessa, mutta kieltä he eivät ole oppinet. Koska eivät halua oppia, mistään muusta ei ole kyse, kun ihmisten omasta halusta kotoutua Suomeen, jokainen kyllä oppii kielen, jos tahtoa on. ”Munalle onkin tärkeää, että hänen lapsensa oppivat ensin kunnolla amharan. Toisen kielen opettelu on hänestä ajankohtaista vasta silloin, kun lapsi puhuu jo sujuvasti kotikieltä.” Mussa Munan ajatusmaailma on väärä, ensisijaisen tärkeää olisi, että hän ja hänen lapsensa oppisivat suomen kielen ensisijaisena, mikäli haluavat Suomessa asua. Totuus kuitenkin on yksinkertainen, ilman varhaista kielikylpyä päiväkodissa lapsi jää helposti koulussa lähtökohtaisesti jälkeen. Se on opetuksen ja oppimisen realiteetti, muita vaihtoehtoja ei ole. Ehdotus varhaisen päiväkotiosallistumisen vahvistamisesta leimataan helposti “pakottamiseksi”, vaikka kyse on siitä, että lapsi saa samat lähtökohdat kuin muutkin Suomessa kasvavat lapset. Tämä nimenomaan ajaa maahanmuuttajien etua. Pelkkä kotona opittu kieli ei riitä siihen sosiaaliseen integraatioon, jota suomalainen koulu ja yhteiskunta edellyttävät. Jos lapset kasvavat rinnakkaisiin kieli- ja kaveriverkostoihin, seuraukset näkyvät myöhemmin koulutuksessa, työllisyydessä ja yhteiskunnallisessa osallisuudessa.
