Among many great concertos by legendary composers, Sergei Rachmaninoff‘s contributions, specifically his second concerto, remains one of all-time favorites of mine. The sweeping melody played by the cellos in the first movement is easily one of the most emotionally devastating moments in all of classical music. Then comes the second movement, suspended in a sentimental, dreamlike state, followed by the stunning third movement, driven by those thrilling, jumping staccatos. Bram Tchaikovsky, geboren als Peter Bramall, (Lincolnshire, 10 november 1950) is een Britse zanger en gitarist. Tchaikovsky speelde vanaf de late jaren 1960 in plaatselijke bands in zijn geboortestad Lincolnshire. In 1977 was hij een van de oprichters van The Motors. Hij speelde op de beide eerste albums van de band, die zich beide konden plaatsen in de Britse albumhitlijst en meerdere hitsingles leverden. De geschiedenis van The Motors werd bepaald door de beide songwriters Andy McMaster en Nick Garvey. Ontevreden met de situatie, nam Tchaikovsky tijdens de productie van het tweede bandalbum de single Sarah Smiles op. Met deze single lukte het hem om een platencontract te tekenen bij het nieuw opgerichte Radar Records en een eigen band onder zijn naam te formeren. Verdere leden waren Micky Broadbent (basgitaar) en Keither Boyce (drums). Want iedereen zal worden gecontroleerd voor het gedrag van een minderheid: om te weten of minderjarigen ergens binnen mogen, moet iedereen zich identificeren. Ook u en ik dus. Dat draait al een eerste fundamenteel rechtsprincipe op z’n kop: niet langer ben je vrij zolang er geen verdenking is, maar moet je eerst bewijzen dat je “oké” bent. ➡️Het is ook weerom een compleet disproportionele maatregel. Stel dat de overheid morgen beslist om huishoudelijk geweld te bestrijden door in élke woonkamer een camera te hangen. De beelden worden gecontroleerd door algoritmes en ambtenaren, want “het is voor de veiligheid”. Iedereen zou dat terecht een hallucinant idee vinden. ➡️ Function creep: vandaag hiervoor en morgen waarvoor? -Vandaag leeftijdsverificatie. -Morgen sociale media. -Overmorgen AI? -Daarna nieuwswebsites? En daarna misschien nog veel meer. Dat is exact hoe function creep werkt: uitzonderingen worden de nieuwe norm. ➡️Criminelen lachen ermee. Wie echt kwaad wil, gebruikt VPN’s, buitenlandse websites, gestolen accounts of andere technische omwegen. Opnieuw worden de miljoenen burgers gecontroleerd die zich wél aan de regels houden. ➡️ Dit creëert nog maar eens bijkomende gevoelige databanken. Leeftijdsverificatie betekent dat iets of iemand uw en mijn leeftijd en identiteit moet controleren. Dat creëert bijkomende databanken met gevoelige persoonsgegevens die kunnen worden gehackt, misbruikt of later voor andere doeleinden worden gebruikt. ➡️ Waar blijven de ouders trouwens? Kinderen opvoeden is in de eerste plaats de verantwoordelijkheid van ouders, niet van de overheid, alsjeblieft niet. En ook niet van technologiebedrijven. En al zeker niet van een controlesysteem dat elke burger preventief behandelt alsof hij zich eerst moet verantwoorden. De discussie gaat dus niet over de vraag of we kinderen willen beschermen. Die wil iedereen. De discussie gaat over de vraag hoeveel vrijheid, privacy en autonomie we bereid zijn op te geven voor maatregelen waarvan nog altijd niet is aangetoond dat ze hun doel daadwerkelijk zullen bereiken. Los daarvan is dit wel een topzomer voor Ursula en haar volgelingen: Chat Control er toch door, Europese CBDC, online leeftijdsverificatie en dus identiteitscontrole. All her dreams coming true.
