Jacek Zarzecki wrote that the Provincial Veterinary Inspectorate issued health certificates for 21 animals taken from the Łączna Zoo to the Netherlands, including a tiger. According to him, the certificates were not issued by the county veterinarian supervising the zoo, who publicly stated that he saw no grounds for taking the animals, and was subsequently removed from the proceedings. Zarzecki pointed out that the police were supposed to designate a final destination for the animals, namely a private zoo. He asked on what legal basis the inspectorate took over the duties of the county veterinarian and from which account the certificates were issued. He also expressed doubts about whether each animal was examined before loading and whether its medical documentation, which — he wrote — was taken over by the prosecutor, was checked, and whether the tiger had a valid rabies vaccination. Zarzecki emphasized that the health certificate is an official document on which the credibility of Polish exports of animals and meat is based. He stated that any possible bending of procedures in this matter could undermine trust in the documents and procedures, and if EU institutions got involved, Poland would have to explain itself. #Zwierzęta #Weterynaria #Prawo (translated)
