Finland har också bett om militärt stöd och den svenska regeringen har beslutat att sända svenska soldater och ska kunna bidra med JAS-plan till vårt grannland. Ryssland håller nämligen på att bygga upp en stor och stark militär närvaro längs den långa gränsen mot Finland. Spekulationerna pågår nu om CIA-chefens besök syftade till att förklara för Kreml att USA känner till deras planer att i närtid testa Nato genom att på något vis attackera Baltikum, Polen eller Finland. Även Sverige ligger i riskzonen. Den svenska valrörelsen handlar dock inte om denna stora och allvarliga fråga, utan partierna ägnar sig åt allehanda utspel i plånboksfrågor. En minister som dock sällan låter sig dras i väg är den seriöse och kunnige Pål Jonson (M). Han har bland annat varit kustjägare och är filosofie doktor i krigsvetenskap. Därtill har han lång politisk erfarenhet, och har som som försvarsminister ägnat sig åt sitt uppdrag med full kraft. Utan några överord eller onödigt inrikespolitiskt spel. Det finns en god anledning till att Pål Jonsson är en av de ministrar som åtnjuter absolut högst förtroende hos svenska folket, enligt Novus mätningar. Han har sedan länge insett allvaret i hotet från Ryssland och har idogt sett till att Sverige är ett av de länder som stöttat Ukraina mest, sedan Putins invasion för snart fem år sedan. Pål Jonson åtnjuter även stor respekt och anseende i Washington, vilket sannerligen inte är oviktigt när USA har en så ombytlig president. Även om Europa, i synnerhet i norr, håller på att rusta upp är vi fortfarande beroende av att USA:s krigsmakt backar upp oss. Nato är och förblir vår viktigaste garant mot att Ryssland anfaller oss militärt. Och även om alla åtta riksdagspartier, tack och lov, är eniga om Sveriges stöd till Ukraina är varken V eller MP några att hålla i handen om det blir skarpt läge. Även Socialdemokraternas omprövning av svenskt Nato-medlemskap skedde med kniven mot strupen. Visst vore det bättre med en försvarsminister som Pål Jonson, som länge velat gå med i försvarsalliansen, och med en regering där Liberalerna – landets första och varmaste Nato-vänner – sitter med. Bättre än sin företrädare Peter Hultqvist (S), som in i det sista motsatte sig att Sverige skulle bli en aktiv allierad med den fria västvärlden.
