Landbruget har stadig ikke forstået, at de er kernen af problemet. Jeg er på vej hjem i toget efter en lang dag i Odense sammen med tusindvis af vrede medlemmer af Landbrug & Fødevarer. Jeg kom ikke for at bakke op om deres stormøde, men for som folketingsmedlem at lytte til deres kritik. Jeg må dog konstatere, at selvforståelsen i dansk landbrug stadig er langt fra realiteterne. Gentagne gange blev det fra talerstolen fremhævet, at det var spildevand fra byerne, der var skyld i døde fisk, fedtemøg og et dårligt havmiljø. Og der blev direkte gjort grin med politikere, der påpegede sammenhængen mellem landbrugets aktiviteter og iltsvind i de danske farvande. Men dette er en total forvridning af virkeligheden. 70 % af al kvælstofudledning kommer fra landbruget. Kun 4,8 % kommer fra renseanlæg, mens overløb står for en endnu mindre del. Det er de hårde facts. Det resterende kommer fra naturlige baggrundskilder, som vi ikke kan gøre noget ved. Jeg har stor respekt for landmænd, der gerne vil diskutere kvælstofreguleringen og den kommende L5. Selv er jeg bl.a. meget optaget af at finde en model, der tager hensyn til produktionen af grøntsager i Danmark. Men landbrugets medansvar for iltsvind kan ikke forklejnes. Derfor er der heller ingen vej uden om en langt mere håndfast regulering af landbrugets udledninger af kvælstof, så vi igen kan skabe en forsvarlig balance mellem landbrug og natur i dette land. #landbrug #klima #miljø

How Did a Democracy Vote Itself Out of Existence? — The Birth of “Streitbare Demokratie” One of the most important questions in modern democratic history is: How can a democracy use democratic procedures to destroy itself? This question became central in Germany after the collapse of the Weimar Republic. Founded in 1919, Weimar Germany was a democratic state with universal suffrage, including voting rights for women, and strong civil liberties. Yet, within fourteen years, democracy had been replaced by Adolf Hitler’s dictatorship. The Nazi rise to power was not simply a military coup. The Nazi Party gained influence through elections, propaganda, and political negotiations. In 1933, Hitler became Chancellor, and his government used legal mechanisms, including the Enabling Act, to remove parliamentary control and dismantle democratic institutions from within. The lesson for post-war Germany was clear: a democracy can be destroyed not only by external enemies, but also by political movements that use democratic freedoms to eliminate democracy itself. When West Germany created its new constitution, the Basic Law (Grundgesetz), in 1949, its founders developed the concept of “Streitbare Demokratie”—a democracy capable of defending itself. The idea was that democracy should not be completely neutral toward forces that seek to abolish democratic rights. A democratic majority cannot legitimately remove the foundations that make democracy possible. Therefore, the Basic Law introduced several safeguards: Political parties that seek to undermine the democratic constitutional order can be banned. The Federal Constitutional Court was given strong powers to protect constitutional principles. Core values such as human dignity, democracy, and the rule of law were given special protection and cannot easily be removed. “Streitbare Demokratie” reflects a difficult balance. Democracy requires freedom of speech, political competition, and tolerance of different opinions. However, history showed Germany that unlimited tolerance toward movements committed to destroying democracy can allow democracy itself to disappear. The central question remains: How tolerant should a democracy be toward those who are intolerant of democracy? Germany’s answer after 1945 was that democracy must defend the principles that make freedom possible. A democracy is not preserved only through elections; it is preserved when citizens and institutions protect the foundations that allow free elections to exist.

The Gender War and the Downward Social Spiral The growing polarization between men and women resembles less a public debate than a divorce involving millions. Both sides talk past each other, escalate tensions, and blame the other gender—all amid a severe mental health crisis. The gender war is a cultural debate among a psychologically struggling population. The people lashing out most intensely may fit recognizable psychological patterns. Each gender has two major failure modes and one healthy alternative: integration. Carl Jung called this individuation. Every man carries an inner feminine—the part that feels, intuits, and finds meaning. Jung called it the anima. Cut off from it, he becomes cold and contemptuous; overwhelmed by it, he becomes passive and moody. Every woman carries an inner masculine—the part that decides, asserts, and holds the line. Jung called it the animus. Cut off from it, she defers to stronger people; possessed by it, she becomes argumentative and rigid. These failures often pair off. The cold, contemptuous man finds a timid woman who cannot challenge him, while the passive man finds a domineering woman who can run his life. Each ideology may then rebrand these unhealthy dynamics as either manhood or liberation. A 2025 *Nature Human Behaviour* study of 14.8 million people across Taiwan, Denmark, and Sweden found that disordered people consistently marry other disordered people across cultures and generations. Balanced people, by contrast, do not need to dominate or be dominated. Yet they are trying to date within a pool increasingly shaped by dysfunction. They get hurt, become cynical, and begin drifting toward the very patterns they once rejected. The disordered worsen, while the healthy become corrupted—a positive feedback loop. Well-integrated people meet a growing pool of disordered partners and drift toward disorder themselves. Reversal may require a critical mass of people to reject cynicism.
