"Until now, it has generally been the case that the European Council struggles to deal with more than one leading topic. This time there were several, and the strategic discussion was deepened at least on three topics," said Prime Minister Janez Janša. "It has become very clear that more or less everyone knows where we need to go for energy prices to be lower, and that this will contribute to greater competitiveness for Europe and the European industry. However, it has also shown that it is very difficult to acknowledge past mistakes." "Today we have a situation where the kilowatt-hour of electricity in China is eight cents, in the United States it is 18, and in Europe it is between 28 and 32 cents. Until this is equalized, it is very difficult to talk about Europe achieving competitiveness with some investments," Janša warned. "Before you talk about abandoning old energy sources, you must ensure that you will secure new ones." As one of the key mistakes of past European energy policy, Janša highlighted the attitude towards nuclear energy. Another important topic of the meeting was the enlargement of the European Union, which Janša described as "the strategic offensive response of the European Union to the challenges we face." #EvropskaUnija #Konkurenčnost #Energija (translated)
