Wat ik nooit zal vergeten is de lakse houding van de Nederlandse regering terwijl de lichamen van Nederlandse burgers, bruut aan stukken gereten, dagenlang op een Oekraïens weiland lagen weg te rotten. Terwijl de wereld toekeek, verrijkte de lokale bevolking zich met hun sieraden en persoonlijke bezittingen. Zelfs hun bagage werd minutieus doorzocht op kostbaarheden. Mark Rutte beloofde plechtig dat de onderste steen boven zou komen en @F__Timmermans reeg leugen aan leugen terwijl de Nederlandse bevolking schreeuwde, nee, smeekte, om daadkracht. Die daadkracht kwam nooit. En daardoor zijn de handen van onze bestuurders besmeurd met het bloed van deze onschuldige slachtoffers. Hun nabestaanden wachten twaalf jaar later nog altijd op volledige openheid, terwijl essentiële delen van het dossier nog steeds achter slot en grendel blijven. De verantwoordelijken zijn altijd buiten schot gebleven, hebben zich nooit hoeven verantwoorden voor deze tragedie. Dat is de 'onderste steen' van Mark Rutte. Een belofte waarvan velen vanaf de eerste dag al vermoedden dat zij nooit bedoeld was om na te komen. Want internationale handel, diplomatieke verhoudingen en geopolitieke belangen bleken zwaarder te wegen dan 298 vermoorde mannen, vrouwen en kinderen.
